The works, which were undertaken whilst the school was occupied, were inclusive of the temporary removal of selected PV panels, followed by the installation of a new tapered insulated IKO Ultra Prevent roof system across 3 separate roof areas totalling approximately 852m² and differing deck types (woodwool and profiled metal). Due to not enough upstand height to allow the correct termination to the new waterproofing system, the works were inclusive of the replacement and raising of windows. Rooflight replacement works were also required due to the existing rooflight being deemed as fragile, as well as the raising of various PV panels present on site to allow for the installation of the new waterproofing system.

COVID-19 mitigation was addressed in the pre-start meeting. Our programme was formulated to accommodate any delays related to COVID-19 due to our robust measures and planning. COVID-19 signage was displayed and all operatives were expected to comply with social distancing rules. To this end they received the current version of our Toolbox Talk: ‘COVID-19 Precautions’ given by Contracts Manager/appointed Social Behaviour Marshal, with talks detailing any required distancing (2m), advice on independent working, welfare arrangements, PPE for COVID-19 prevention (sanitiser, masks etc.) and what to do should an operative display symptoms, etc.

Weekly site visits were carried out by an IKO technician to inspect installation procedures. Our Health & Safety advisors, Flood Projects LLP, also undertook weekly site safety inspections and produced written reports detailing our performance which were passed on to the Client’s project team for review and discussion at progress meetings. Following the completion of the project, which was achieved without issue or complaints from any site users, the Client’s contract management team inspected the works and signed off on their satisfaction. An IKO site technician also assessed the installation and was able to provide a 25-year guarantee for the new roofing system following a handover of the project between our Contracts Manager and the Clients project team.
